Garumara National Park

It is a popular National Park which is one of the most visited sites in the entire Dooars region. The park is situated in the Jalpaiguri district of West Bengal along the rivers Murti and Raidak. It is spread over an area of about 80 sq km and lies on the foothills of the great Himalayas. It is a beautiful place to visit due to its large variety of flora and fauna, untouched nature and the natural habitat of the Wildlife there. In the year 2009, Ministry of Environment and Forests declared it as the best-protected area in India which was of great boost for the tourism sector here. Here, the most precious animal is the Asiatic one horned rhino but other mammals, reptiles, insects and birds, Asian elephants, the royal Bengal tigers and the Great Indian Hornbill are the treasure of the Garumara National Park. It is a great place to visit for a peace of mind and to live among Nature in its true form.

The park is also a reservoir of around 193 species of birds,7 species of turtles, 22 species of reptiles and 27 species of fishes. Other commonly found animals here include elephants, leopards, Indian Bison, Rock Python, deer and Giant Squirrel. Here, you can also take up the Safari tour to view the wildlife up close.

How to Reach Garumara National Park by Flight:
If you are travelling by air, the nearest airport would be the Bagdogra Airport, which is about 80 kilometres away from Garumara.

How to Reach Garumara National Park by Road
The Garumara National Park is well connected by road network to major cities. Government and private run vehicles are available which should reach you to Garumara in about 2 hours journey.

How to Reach Garumara National Park by Train
The nearest railway station is New Maynaguri railway station which is about 20 kilometres away from the Garumara National park.

October to March : These months are the high season for tourist activity in Dooars. The pleasant temperature during these months and the low chances of rain make it a favorable time to explore the wilderness.

April to May : These summer months also witnesses a huge traffic of tourist who comes to Dooars for its favorable climate during the summers. The temperature remains below 30 degree Celsius and is also a great time for the safari ride.

The park has 193 species of birds, 7 species of turtles, 22 species of reptiles and 27 species of fishes within its area.

During the winter season, migratory birds such as teal, stork and ibis can also be seen here.
There are two types of Safaris to choose from, which are the Elephant Safari and the Jeep Safari.
You cannot enter the park or take the safari without a guide.
The three watchtowers are Jatraprasad, Methla Watchtower and Chandrachur Watchtower.
The park remains closed from 16th June to 15 September and on Thursdays every week.
